Humane Education

Our Humane Education program engages a humane educator to visit area schools, libraries, clubs, scout groups, etc. to present programs for children and adults. Caring for pets, safety around animals, wildlife issues, and the connections between animal and human abuse are examples of programs offered.
These programs are offered at no cost.

Reducing Pet Overpopulation

We sponsor H.O.P.E. (Help Over-Population End), a low cost spay/neuter program. The HOPE Program is open to all pet owners. Several local veterinarians participate in the program for us. Pet owners must pay us for a HOPE certificate that they then take to a veterinarian on the programs to get the reduced rate.

Pet Adoptions

Every year, approximately 2000 dogs and cats have to be euthanized at the Hendricks County Animal Control Facility because they are not adopted.

To help homeless pets, we facilitate pet adoption events through a cooperative effort with Speck's Pet Supply in Avon and the Hendricks County Animal Control Facility (HCACF). We transport adoptable puppies from HCACF (when available) to Specks the second Saturday of each month. Kittens are also transported to Specks, where they are able to remain in public view throughout the week. In addition, we sponsor Pet Adoption Days at local fairs and festivals, in order to provide opportunities for pet foster and rescue groups to find loving homes for the animals they shelter.

These events give potential pets more public visibility, and thus, a better chance for adoption. The events also serve to inform the public that animals are available for adoption at the Hendricks County Animal Control Facility.
