We have been promoting the idea of a dog park and searching for land for since 11/02.
The last 2+ years we had high hopes of leasing overflow parking area at the NEW Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. Protesters brought pressure to bear on the Fairgrounds Operations Committee and our plan was rejected. Please be aware that over the years we have contacted LOTS OF PEOPLE for leads or as potential site owners; e.g. Twin Bridges Landfill, Realtors, Airport Authority, Amtrack, the County Commissioners re: the old Fairgrounds site, various town park administrators (Most of whom felt that a park in their town would be for just their town citizens and not open to the county. Perhaps you could approach your particular town park and see if you can get somewhere), and IMI, just to name a few.
We will continue to seek names of potential dog park users, however, we are not actively seeking land at this time because the:
Hendricks County Park Board IS COMMITED TO developing a dog park as soon as possible. Please contact Bill Roach (306-5848) to voice your desire for a dog park, and/or location suggestions. They are currently seeking a suitable site.
We have been asked to be involved in the eventual promotion and activities
Avon's Washington Township Parks Department is GOING TO establish a dog park. They are in the very preliminary stages of planning the park. It appears they are leaning towards the park being available for non-Avon people also, just with a wee bit higher membership fee for non-Avon residents.
Please contact Kristen Machan (272-1835) to voice your desire for a dog park and/or with an offer of help on a support committee.
HOWEVER, if you are aware of a suitable site that would be economically feasible (donated, or reasonable lease) please contact us. We will be happy to consider it ourselves, or refer your suggestion to the appropriate governmental entity.
Please be assured that money we will/have raise(d) for a dog park will continue to be held for that purpose. While it may not be used to establish a Humane Society dog park, it will be used to augment amenities at any of the dog parks that may be established by other entities.
Our major fundraiser for a dog park will continue. "SPRING BREAK AT DOGTONA" will be on the 3rd Saturday in March, at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds.

Please contact us regarding any of the above. Our number is 745-8181. We thank you for your interest.
